WHY DEGAUSS ?

Degaussing is the process of "ERASING" the recorded signal on any media format by passing it through a strong magnetic field restoring it back to it's original or "blank" condition

  1. For security purposes
  2. To conform to privacy laws
  3. For reuse of media
  4. For disposal purposes
  5. For Drive/Cartridge Compatability
How Secure is your Data?

The technological advances over the last few years have benefited almost every organisation bringing countless efficiencies to every type of operation. But with the ever increasing growth of this technology additional responsibilities and risks are emerging which all too often are being overlooked and ignored to the considerable cost of the user.

One such area is the security risks associated with the handling, processing and disposal of magnetic media. An increasing range of computer, communication, recording and entertainment systems use magnetic media, they include floppy and hard disks, reels, cassettes and tapes which come in a variety of sizes and formats. It is not sufficient to ‘record over’ existing media, as this method is ineffective and definitely not secure. Computer hard drives could hold information that companies would not wish to fall into the hands of competitors, or, computer reels may have data that could infringe the data protection laws should they be disposed of in the wrong way. There are undoubtedly many examples of more serious risks.
